Alabama fatigue, that’s what I call it. It is not that I am a sore loser or anything of the sort; it is just that Bama fans consider their season a failure now if they lose the National Championship game. I understand the disappointment in a loss of such magnitude, but personally I have grown quite weary of all
things Alabama.
There is no doubt that Nick Saban is the best collegiate coach that ever walked the earth, but it is time for the changing of the guard, and it almost was. I know Bear Bryant was a beast of a coach, but Saban is in another stratosphere, in my mind at least. Georgia looked like the better team from the initial kick and had an answer for everything Bama threw at them until heralded true-freshman Tua Tagovailoa replaced Jalen Hurts at quarterback to start the second half. I am not a Georgia fan at all, but they looked like national champs until the wheels came off.
I guess, well, I am actually pretty sure, I would be elated if my team were in Bama’s shoes, but I just do not see any team doing what the Tide has done over the last decade. Five National Championships in nine years is mind-boggling. I feel sure Georgia will be back in the thick of it next year, as will Bama, but maybe there will be different teams to rise up next and hopefully an eight-team playoff will soon begin as well to help that along.
If you are from Mississippi and follow one of the two SEC member schools in this state, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ROOT FOR AN SEC TEAM TO WIN IT ALL! It helps your team none...nada. Maybe that hoss recruit that was about to pull the trigger and commit to your school decides to go to Bama or Georgia because they are currently the top of the SEC and nation.
It is ok to have SEC pride, but it should be nothing more than pride for banging it out in such a tough conference and still have your head above water at year end. Every team in the SEC outside of our great state wants to see both Mississippi State and Ole Miss fail. Their fans do not care about your team at all and the “blue bloods” of the conference think they are the only teams that should be eating at the “big boy” table. Root for the SEC if you must, because it is the best conference in the nation, but it will do your team absolutely no good in the long run.
I still cannot believe that Tagovailoa to DeVonta Smith 41-yard touchdown pass in overtime for the 26-23 victory when just minutes before I thought Bama was dead in the water. It was straight-up Saban genius when he replaced a starter that was 25-2 over the last two years with an uber-talented freshman who was just “lights-out!” I can appreciate greatness when I see it and Saban is the greatest of all time, but to me that just adds even more to the fatigue. So go on and chant SEC at every bowl game or out-of-conference game you attend; I am just not going to do it because the money is the same when it is all divided up, so that is not a good enough reason. Being proud that your college participates in the SEC does not mean you all of the sudden have to be fan every time a game is on. SEC, SEC, SEC, SEC, SEC...nahhhh.
