It is now that time of year when basketball playoff action starts to heat up, marking the countdown to the end of the season and some Big House championship basketball.
The McAdams Bulldogs played really good basketball down the stretch, earning a Region 5-1A Tournament championship that definitely helped their position in the playoff scenario. The Lady Bulldogs played well in the region tourney, losing in the championship game to Durant, but immediately bounced back with a first-round playoff win over Salem on Monday night, advancing to the second round of the Class 1A South Playoffs. The Bulldogs played the Mississippi School for the Deaf on Monday night and their fate is not yet known at press time.
The Lady Whippets resurrected their season with a strong showing in the Region 4-4A Tournament before falling to Leake Central in the championship game. This showing sent the Lady Whippets to Ripley for a first-round playoff game where, sadly, their season came to an end as well. The Whippets fell to Caledonia in their first game of the tournament, effectively ending their season one win shy of 20.
With the McAdams Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs still in the playoffs at press time, I am transitioning over to baseball and fastpitch while trying not to miss a basket. We are currently putting together a Spring Preview that will feature schedules and rosters of Kosciusko baseball and fastpitch, Ethel baseball and fastpitch, French Camp baseball and fastpitch and McAdams baseball. This preview will include a season overview and quotes from each coach and hopefully a little more insight on your favorite teams and players. This is indeed an exciting time of the year for me with spring sports kicking off, pardon the expression, and basketball playoff action in full swing…see what I did there? Get out there and support the Whippets, Tigers, Bulldogs (don’t forget about the basketball playoffs) and Panthers as we get into championship form on the court in the dirt.
Good luck Bulldogs!!!
