McAdams head football coach Kenneth Nelson values preparation and organization, understanding the impression it makes on others and the effect it has on his team.
That is where his focus will be pointed when his Bulldogs take the field at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 to take on Leake County in a preseason jamboree.
“Our main goal is to be organized,” Nelson said. “I want not only the kids, but also the coaches to know what is happening and when it needs to happen. You just want to be organized. You want to look like a football team.
“You need to know when to go onto the field and when to come off,” he said. “Transition is the big thing. You need to know when to go out on offense, defense, special teams, that kind of thing.”
After nearly two weeks of practice by the time the scrimmage takes place, Nelson hopes the match-up will generate some energy for his team and the community.
“I’m hoping we can get some excitement about the football team and get the whole west side of the county (Attala) to show up,” Nelson said.
Nelson said last week saw his team got in five days of good weather practice-wise. “I was very pleased for the most part,” he said. “No storms caused us to miss anything or pushed us inside. That is very hard to come by here in Mississippi.”
He said he consistently had 20-22 players show up for practice.
“We installed a good part of the offense we are going to run and worked some on the defense,” he said.
McAdams opens the regular season on the road against J.Z. George on Aug. 23.
