Querrion Gadson's skill set proved to be good enough to enable the 6-foot-2 point guard to be named the Region 5-1A Most Valuable Player following the McAdams standout's senior season.
Now he is setting his sights higher. Gadson signed with Southwest Mississippi Community College last week, with the goal of making a difference for the Bears this coming season on the way to eventual earning an NCAA Division I basketball scholarship.
"I have been working on my outside shot and getting stronger, Gadson said. "The coach played point guard in Division I, so he knows what it takes to get to the next level." This past year SWCC had three players sign with four-year schools.
Gadson's high school coach, Carl Hathorn, said Southwest knew exactly what they were looking for when they recruited McAdams' top ball handler.
"He can facilitate the gall real well," Hathorn said. "He doesn't have a great outside shot, but that's something he's working on. He's really been the leader of my team the last two years."
While Gadson is a good defender, Hathorn says that's something he expects him to continue to improve on. "He can ale rebound extremely well."
Gadson led the Bulldogs to a 15-12 record and the Region 5-1A Tournament title this past season.
This past season, Gadson — who loves to drive to the goal — averaged 207 points, 9.7 rebounds. 6-3 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.2 blocks per game.
