Kosciusko dropped a pair of high school baseball contests last week after the Whippets fell victim to two come-from-behind rallies.
Visiting Nanih Waiya scored five times in the top of the eighth inning to top Kosy 9-4 in extra innings on Friday night. Saturday, Grenada scored five unanswered runs on two occasions and posted a 10-5 victory.
Those losses dropped the Whippets to 5-6 entering this week, when Kosciusko was scheduled to take on Noxubee County in a pair of district contests. The Whippets were to host Noxubee on Tuesday, and Friday, they will visit the Tigers in Macon.
Next week, Kosciusko has a busy week on tap, as the Whippets are scheduled to host Louisville on Tuesday (April 3) and visit Louisville on
Friday (April 6). On Saturday (April 7), Kosy is slated to host Pelahatchie and Newton County.
Last Friday night, the Whippets scored twice in the second and fourth innings to build a 4-0 lead over defending Class 1A state champion Nanih Waiya.
But the Warriors rallied to tie things in the sixth, then won it with a five-run rally in the top of the eighth.
Brandon Black had a pair of hits and Ethan Gowan singled, scored and drove in a run to lead Kosciusko’s seven-hit attack.
Chase Morgan also singled and scored twice; Eldarius Roby singled and drove in a run; Micah Parker and Justin Nunn both singled; Clark Dean scored a run.
Morgan was the losing pitcher in relief of Walker Yuille. They combined to strike out seven while allowing five earned runs.
On Saturday, visiting Kosciusko scored three times in the top of the first inning before Grenada scored the next five.
After the Whippets tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull even at 5-5, the host Chargers answered with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to win it.
Kosciusko lost despite getting as many hits (eight) as Grenada, with Black collecting a pair of singles and two runs scored while Logan Fancher doubled, scored and drove in a run.
Parker, Yuille and Nunn each singled and drove in a run; Gowan singled and scored; Morgan singled; Dean scored once.
Parker was also the losing pitcher, with Roby and Gowan seeing relief duty.
