The Kosciusko Lady Whippet basketball team pulled out a big win on Saturday in overtime to defeat the Louisville Lady Wildcats 62-58. The win moved the Lady Whippets to 11-6 overall on the year and 1-0 in Region 4-4A play.
The Lady Whippets were in complete control of the contest through two quarters, outscoring the Lady Wildcats 17-11 in quarter one and 11-8 in the second quarter. The Kosciusko 28-19 lead was short-lived after halftime when the Lady Wildcats when on an offensive barrage, hitting shots from all over the floor, to tie the contest at 40 apiece to end the third quarter.
The Lady Wildcats led the Whippets 53-50 near the end of regulation, but Mahogany Perteet hit a three-pointer that sent the Region 4-4A tilt into overtime.
With a little over two minutes left in overtime, the Lady Whippets found themselves down 57-56 when Feria Mays was fouled and sent to the charity stripe. Mays sank both, giving the Lady Whippets a 58-56 lead that they would not relinquish and won the contest 62-58.
The leaders for the Lady Whippets were Mays with 14 points, three rebounds, four assists and five steals; Katie Mitchell with 13 points and one assist; Perteet with 13 points, one board and one assist; Alexis McBride with 10 points, five boards, six assists and two steals; Kenyatta Allen with five points and eight rebounds; Indya Haynes with two points, four boards, one assist and two steals and Makenzie Horall with two points, eight boards, one assist and one steal.
The Lady Whippets traveled to Houston on Tuesday night and will hit the road once again on Friday when they play Caledonia at 6 p.m. The Lady Whippets will be back at home next Tuesday night when they host the Leake Central Lady Gators at 6 p.m.
