The Kosciusko Whippets (14-3, 1-0) hosted the Louisville Wildcats on Saturday after Friday night’s games were moved due to wintery weather conditions to open Region 4-4A play and came away with a 52-47 win.
The Wildcats took an early 13-11 lead after one quarter of play and would lead the Whippets 27-22 at the half. The Whippets outscored Louisville 26-19 in the third quarter to take a 48-46 lead into the final stanza.
Defense was the name of the game in the fourth quarter when the shooting of both teams went cold, but the Whippets were able to hang on for a hard-fought 52-47 key region win over the Wildcats.
The leaders for the Whippets were D.J. Sailor with 13 points, three rebounds, one assist and two steals; Stefan Harmon with 13 points, four boards, one assist and three steals; Johnny Forrest with nine points, one board, one assist and a steal; Calvin Banks with eight points, three boards and one steal; JaQuan Williams with eight points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals and Kadarius Banks with two rebounds and one steal.
The Whippets were on the road at Houston on Tuesday night and will travel to Caledonia on Friday night for a 6 p.m. contest.
