The Kosciusko Lady Whippet fastpitch team (23-6) traveled to Lafayette County last Tuesday night in Game 1 of a three game set to begin the second round of the MHSAA Class 4A North Playoffs and dropped that contest to the Lady Commodores 2-0 in a well-pitched affair from both ball clubs. The Lady Commodores traveled to Kosy on Thursday night for Game 2 and 3 (if necessary) to try and wrap up the best-of-three series. That was not in the cards for Lafayette and they fell 10-0 in Game 2 and 3-2 in Game 3. The Lady Whippets advanced into the quarterfinals against Houston and won Game 1 of that best-of-three series 3-2 on Monday night in Kosciusko. Game 2 and 3 (if necessary) was played in Houston on Tuesday night.
In Game 1 against Lafayette last Tuesday night Katie Lawrence got the start and pitched six innings, allowing only two runs while striking out seven Lady Commodores. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Josie Meggs with a single; Madeline McCown with a single; Maddy Gilmore with a single and AnnaLeigh Jones with a double.
Lawrence got the nod once again on Thursday night in Kosciusko and picked up the win after pitching six shutout innings and striking out seven once again. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Meggs with a double and one run scored; McCown with a single and one run scored; Katie Mitchell with two singles and two runs scored; Gilmore with two singles and one run scored; Jones with three singles and two runs scored; Audrey Claire Henderson with a single and one run scored; Lawrence with three singles; Kelly Hood with one run scored and Melissa Gowan with one run scored.
The Game 2 win forced a Game 3 and Mitchell got the start and win by pitching seven complete, allowing only two runs while striking out eight. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Hood with a single and one run scored; Meggs with a single; Gilmore with two doubles; Sarah Caroline Henderson with two singles; McCown with one run scored and Abigail Myers with one run scored.
In Game 1 of the MHSAA Class 4A quarterfinals on Monday night, Lawrence got the start and win, yielding only two runs on seven hits while striking out six in seven complete. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Hood with a triple and one run scored; Meggs with a single and one run scored; Audrey Claire Henderson with a single and Gowan with one run scored.
