The Kosciusko Whippets and Lady Whippets hosted Leake County last Friday night with the Whippets winning 54-42 and improving to 5-0 on the young season while the Lady Whippets fell to 1-3 with a 41-38 loss.
In the Whippet win, Kosciusko led 18-15 after one quarter of play but trailed 23-22 at the half. The Whippets outscored the Leake County Gators 16-7 in the third quarter and never trailed again in the contest, winning 54-42. The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Calvin Banks with 24 points and six rebounds; Devonte Grove with eight points and five rebounds and JaQuan Williams with five points, 11 rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.
The Lady Whippets lost a close contest that they led most of the night until a big third quarter for the Lady Gators turned the tide for Kosciusko. The Lady Whippets led 10-8 right out of the gate and took a 21-14 lead into the intermission before the Lady Gators outscored them 20-7 in the third quarter to pull away with the 41-38 win. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Kenyatta Allen with 12 points and eight rebounds; Samia Veasy with three points, six rebounds and two steals and Ameria Riley with five points, four rebounds and three steals.
Both the Whippets and Lady Whippets will travel to the Ethel Invitational on Thursday and Friday with game times TBA.
