The Kosciusko Whippet baseball team is rolling, so to speak, after three wins last week; two over Region 4-4A foe Caledonia and another over West Point. The wins improved the Whippets’ overall record to 14-3 and 4-0 in region play.
In last Tuesday night’s contest at Caledonia Jerod Meggs got the start and win for the Whippets, dominating the Confederates through six innings of work by allowing just one hit and one unearned run while striking out five and walking five. Rusty Atkinson finished things out on the hill for the Whippets by allowing a hit and striking out two in one inning of work.
The Whippets got on the board early in the contest after pushing four runs across in the top of the first inning and would lead 6-1 after two complete. Kosy pushed their final around across in the sixth inning to take a 7-1 win over Caledonia. The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Jeremy Deason with a single, double and one run scored; Clark Dean with a single, one run scored and one RBI; Logan Fancher with a single, home run, one run scored and two RBI; Chase Morgan with a run scored and an RBI; Micah Parker with a double, one run scored and two RBI and Jatavious Herron with a single and one run scored.
The Whippets traveled to West Point on Thursday night and won the contest 8-5 behind a strong outing from Walker Yuille. Yuille, who got the win, pitched four innings, allowing three hits, two runs (one earned) and a walk while striking out two hitters. Bryce Oakes pitched 1.2 innings giving up no runs on no hits while striking out two and walking one. Ethan Gowan pitched 1.1 innings and gave up a hit and three runs (none earned) while walking one and striking out three. The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Deason with two singles and one run scored; Dean with two singles, one run scored and an RBI; Fancher with a single and one RBI; Morgan with an RBI; Meggs with a double, one run scored and one RBI; Parker with two singles, one run scored and two RBI; Loftin Price with two runs scored; Herron with a single and an RBI; Ryan Atkinson with a single and one run scored and Walker Yuille with a home run, one run scored and one RBI.
On Friday night the Whippets hosted Caledonia for the second game of the Region 4-4A series and Deason got the start in Kosy’s 9-8 win. He pitched three innings, allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out two. Oakes pitched .1 innings, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out one and Rusty Atkinson pitched 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on two hits while walking four. Parker picked up the win in two innings, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out one Fed. The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Deason with a single and an RBI; Fancher with two doubles and two runs scored; Dean with a single and two runs scored; Daulton Lindsey with a run scored; Morgan with a run scored and an RBI; Meggs with a single, two runs scored and an RBI; Parker with a single and an RBI; Rusty Atkinson with a single and one run scored; Ryan Atkinson with a double and two RBI and Yuille with a single.
The Whippets hosted Leake Central on Tuesday night and will travel to Carthage for game two in the Region 4-4A series on Friday night at 7 p.m. before traveling to Grenada on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest to finish out the week.
