The Kosciusko Whippets and Lady Whippets each played three times last week with both coming up winless in games against Louisville on Tuesday night, Leake Central on Thursday night and New Hope on Friday. With the losses, the Whippets dropped to 10-8 overall while the Lady Whippets fell to 3-15.
In last Tuesday night’s Region 4-4A tilt with Louisville, the Whippets lost 57-52 with Antonio Harmon being the leader scorer. Harmon scored 21 points while pulling down eight rebounds with two steals. Calvin Banks scored 11 points with five rebounds and two assists while Eschavious Mays scored eight with three steals.
The Lady Whippets fell to the Lady Wildcats by a score of 62-24 with Kenyatta Allen being the leading scorer. Allen had 10 points, eight rebounds and two steals while Ameria Riley had four points and three steals. Mahogany Perteet capped the scoring for the Lady Whippets with three points and five assists.
On Thursday night, the Whippets traveled to Carthage to take on the Leake Central Gators and fell for the second time of the week by a score of 62-56. The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Terry Skinner with 21 points, three boards and one steals and Banks with 14 points, six rebounds and two assists.
The Lady Whippets fell to the Lady Gators by a score of 46-17 last Thursday night, with Samia Veasy scoring five points and Perteet with three points and five assists.
Both the Whippets and Lady Whippets capped off the week on Friday night when they hosted New Hope. The Whippets, who fell behind early in the contest and trailed by 17 at the half, were just a three-pointer away from winning in regulation when Terry Skinner’s shot rimmed out with less than two seconds remaining. The Trojans knocked the ball out of bounds and the Whippets retained possession only to miss the ensuing shot as time expired. The leaders for the Whippets were Skinner with 16 points, four boards and two steals; Ocorya Forrest with 12 points and three steals; Banks with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists and Devonte Grove with six points and 10 boards.
The Lady Whippets fell 52-29 to the Lady Trojans with Katie Mitchell and Allen leading the way. Mitchell scored eight points with two steals while Allen had eight points and two rebounds.
Kosciusko hosted Choctaw County on Tuesday night and will host Noxubee County on Friday night at 6 p.m. The Whippets will then hit the road and take on Greenwood at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The Whippets will host Leake Central next Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
