Kosciusko head football coach Chad Peterson will no longer serve in the capacity as head football coach for the district, the school said in a release Monday morning.
Peterson was seven games into his tenure as head coach after he was hired by the district in July. Peterson was not on the sideline for the Whippets’ 32-15 loss to Houston Friday night.
“Coach Peterson will continue to serve as a teacher in the Kosciusko School District, but will not serve in the capacity of a coach,” Smith said in the release.
The coaching change has not been accepted by the Kosciusko Board of Trustees as of Monday morning, but is expected to go before the board during its scheduled meeting Thursday night.
“I have really enjoyed being here and I enjoyed working with the community and the players,” Peterson said.
Sid Wheatley will serve as interim head coach, beginning with Friday’s game against Caledonia at Landrum Field.
Peterson was promoted to head coach by the district in June after serving as an assistant under former coach Trac Baughn. Baughn resigned at the end of the 2015-16 school year for a coordinator position at New Hope.
During his head coaching tenure at KSD Peterson posted a 1-5 record.
