The Attala County Supervisors have given the green light to begin replacement of a bridge across the Yockanookany River bottom.
The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a $1,008,788.70 bid from N.L. Carson Construction Company to replace a wood frame bridge on Attala Road 5205 near Ethel.
The project, which came in at 11.97 percent below estimate, will replace 0.188 miles of bridge and approaches on the county road. The project will call for a road detour, but is expected to be completed in 120 working days.
In other business the supervisors agreed to add a new phone line to 911-dispatch with an increase in calls expected after the closing of the county jail last month. The Sheriff’s Office will transfer all calls made into its office during non-working hours and holidays to dispatch, a job that used to be done by the jailers.
The county is expected to look back at the issue next month to see if further action needs to be taken.
Other actions taken include
• renewed the contract for Mike Sanders for land appraisal;
• approved the first quarter budget for the Sheriff’s Office and tax collector;
• approved travel for the justice clerk to a statewide seminar in Jackson.
