Fresh off a Class 4A state championship performance last week, Kosciusko fast-pitch standout Katie Mitchell is now prepping for an all-star performance.
Mitchell was named last week to participate in the Mississippi Association of Coaches 2018 All-Star Softball Games. She will suit up for the North team in the Class 4A/5A/6A contests.
The 2018 MAC all-star softball games will be held on the campus of Jones County Junior College. Players will report for practice on Thursday, May 31.
Admission is $5.
The Class 4A/5A/6A stars will compete at approximately 7 p.m., on Friday, June 1, and again around noon on Saturday, June 2.
The Class 1A/2A/3A games are set for 5 p.m. on June 1 and 10 a.m. on June 2, with player introductions for all games and presentation of the state championship plaques slated between games on Friday – at approximately 6:45 p.m.
Mitchell and the Lady Whippets just completed a breath-taking run on their way to a 31-4 record and the 4A title, sweeping Lawrence County in the best-of-three title series last week in Hattiesburg.
Mitchell was a big reason, as she was part of a key 1-2 punch from the circle for Kosciusko. The junior had a 17-2 record with a 1.27 earned-run average this past season, striking out 104 in 116 innings pitched.
Mitchell threw a dozen complete games and had eight shutouts for head coach Tony Terry.
At the plate, she also contributed with a .345 batting average and a .495 on-base percentage. Mitchell had four doubles and drove in 21 runs on the year.
