The Kosciusko Dixie Youth baseball all-star team for five- and six-year-olds won a three-team district tournament at the Parks and Recreation field this past weekend to advance to the state tournament.
The team will compete in the double elimination state tournament July 6-8 at Bear Pen Park in Cleveland. The first game for
Kosciusko will be 5 pm. Friday, July 6 against a team from Pike County.
Kosciusko will play a second game the next day; at 9 a.m. if the first game is a loss or 10:30 if it is a win. The opponent for the second game will be a team from either Hatley or Sumrall.
The 12-team tournament also includes two teams from Cleveland and one each from Magee, Pontotoc, Natchez, Columbia,
Laurel and West Lauderdale.
Five- and six-year-old Dixie Youth baseball is coach pitch. Daily tickets are $7 for anyone 13 and older. Children 12 and under will be admitted free.
The season ended for Kosciusko's seven- and eight-year-old all stars last weekend when the team failed to win the district tournament at Yazoo City.
Kosciusko's 9-10 and 11-12 all star teams will play in double district elimination tournaments this weekend.
The six-team 9-10 tournament will be at Grove Park in Jackson with the Kosciusko's first game at 6 p.m. Friday against a team from Philadelphia. The top two teams from the tournament advance to the state tournament July 13-16 at St. Martin in Jackson County.
The six-team 11-12 tournament is at Northside Park in Philadelphia. Kosciusko opens play at 8 p.m. Friday against a team from Philadelphia. The top two teams will play in the state tournament July 13-16 in Brookhaven.
