Kosciusko’s 11 and 12 year old Dixie Youth baseball team won its first three games at the state tournament at Hugh Ellard Park, but then lost twice last Sunday, ending its run in the double elimination tournament.
The 5-6 team went 1-2 in pool play at the World Series, then lost its first game in the single elimination portion of the tournament played a Hansel King Sports Complex in Brookhaven
The 11-12 team began the state tournament with victories over Sumrall 7-6, Pike County 12-3 and Columbia 12-5. But that was followed by losses to Greene County 11-1 and Wayne County 16-1.
“It just wasn’t our day to win,” said coach Sam Hill.
Brayden Hill was the winning pitcher against Sumrall. Barrett Kuhn and Bailey Powers each had two RBIs. Andrew Mancell was the winning pitcher against Pike County and Cooper Stevens picked up the win against Columbia.
Hill, Kuhn and Logan Engle each had multiple hits against Pike County. In the Columbia game, Powers, Bennie Powell and Ryan Tillman were multiple hitters.
“We had a great team this year,” Sam Hill said. “Their future is just now starting.” He said the players will play junior high baseball next year.
The 5-6 team opened pool play with a 12-11 victory over a team from Searcy, Arkansas. But that was followed by losses to Hattiesburg 17-16 and Troy, Alabama 12-1 in pool play and a 17-1 loss to Hueytown, Ala. in the elimination portion of the tournament.

Dixie Youth has teams from Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
