The season kicks off for the Holmes Community College Bulldogs Thursday night when they travel to Decatur to face East Central Community in an attempt to avenge a 29-14 loss from last season.
East Central is coming off its best season in 16 years, finishing the year ranked No. 10 in the NJCAA Top-20 poll after winning the C.H.A.M.P.S Heart of Texas Bowl last December. However, they will be replacing many key positions, while Holmes brings back a bunch of talent in their skill spots.
Bulldog quarterback Dejerric Bryant makes his return after throwing for 1,312 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. He will be backed-up by former Kosciusko Whippet Josh Dodd, who is expected to see playing time in certain situations.
Treviante McDaniel will take over in the backfield after running for 347 yards in seven games last year, while D.J. Montgomery will look to be the lead target in the receiving corps.
Two of last seasons’ top tacklers will all return with Jamar Smith and Buddy Benson both returning on the defensive side of the ball.
