If the 2020 French Camp football schedule looks familiar, there is a good reason.
It is the same 11 opponents in the same order as last year. The only difference is that last year's home games will be on the road and last year's road games at home.
The schedule begins with three non division games, followed by the Panthers' eight Region 2-1A opponents. All games are schedule for 7 p.m. on Fridays.
After visiting Winona Christian on Aug. 21 and Starkville Academy on Aug. 28, the Panthers host MHSAA Class 2A foe Eupora on Sept. 4. Then comes the region schedule that sees the regular season culminate at Smithville on Nov. 6.
French Camp missed the 2019 playoffs with a 3-8 overall record and 3-5 mark in 2-1A play for fifth place. Victories came against Okolona, Hamilton and Vardaman.
Nanih Waiya won the region and went on to repeat as state champion. Noxapater was second in the region and was edged by Nanih Waiya 21-20 in the North State final. Tupelo Christian and West Lowndes were third and fourth.
French Camp’s only other fall sport is cross country for boys and girls. Coach Joe Watkins said he has not finalized a schedule, but it should be similar to last year. He hopes to host two meets and participate in meets at Saltillo and Madison.
Both teams are coming off a strong 2019 season. The girls finished third at the 1A state meet and the boys were fourth.
