French Camp begins its quest for an MHSAA 1A baseball championship Friday with a 6 p.m. home playoff game against Sacred Heart.
The Panthers qualified for the playoffs by finishing second in 5-1A. Sacred Heart, a private school in Hattiesburg, was third in 8-1A with a 4-4 district record and 7-9 overall. The second game of the best-of-three series is scheduled for Saturday evening in Hattiesburg. Game three, if necessary, will be at French Camp Monday. French Camp would host the decisive game due to being the higher seed.
If the Panthers defeat Sacred Heart, they would play either Stringer or Okolona in the second round, beginning April 27.
French Camp split two games with Ethel last week, a 6-3 win and a 3-2 loss, to finish 5-3 in district play. Defending 1A champion Nanih Waiya was 8-0 in the district. Ethel also finished 5-3, but French Camp earned the second seed as a result of outscoring Ethel in their two games.
Nanih Waiya plays Lumberton in the opening round, Ethel plays Salem and fourth-place Noxapster plays Resurrection.
