The Ethel baseball team dropped a pair of contests last week to defending Class 1A state champion Nanih Waiya.
The Tigers fell 7-3 to the Warriors at home on Tuesday, then dropped a 13-2 decision at Nanih Waiya on Thursday.
Ethel entered this week with a record of 12-7 overall and was scheduled to visit French Camp Academy on Tuesday before hosting FCA on Thursday.
Next week, barring any schedule changes or makeups, the Tigers are scheduled to host West Lowndes on Monday (April 16) before the Mississippi High School Activities Association state playoffs begin.
In a previously-unreported game, Ethel jumped all over visiting Noxapater and posted a 17-6 win.
In a battle of Tigers, Noxapater scored four times in the top of the first, only to see Ethel answer with six runs in the bottom of the same inning. The host Tigers scored seven more in the second and four more in the third and won by the 10-run rule.
Alex Schuster was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs; Tanner Reeves had two hits, three runs, and two RBIs; and Blake Wilkinson doubled, scored three times and drove in a pair to lead the way.
Hayden Beall had one hit, one run, and one RBI; Cyrus Rone scored twice and had an RBI; Hayden Graves scored and drove in a pair of runs, and Brady Odom scored twice.
Wilkinson was the winning pitcher, with Beall, Schuster, and Odom all seeing mound time, as well.
In the Tuesday game with Nanih Waiya, the visiting Warriors scored three times each in the third and fifth innings and posted a 7-3 victory.
Cullin Cummins had two hits, one RBI and a run scored while Schuster doubled and scored for the Tigers.
Beall singled, scored and drove in a run; Odom singled and drove in one run; Rone, Reeves and Graves all had one hit.
Odom was the losing pitcher after giving up three earned runs on two hits in five innings of work.
In Thursday’s rematch at Nanih Waiya, the Tigers managed just one hit – a solo home run from Schuster. Wilkinson scored the team’s only other run and was also charged with the pitching loss.
