Ethel baseball benefited from walks and errors in sweeping a doubleheader from Louisville 15-5 and 17-4. Louisville made 12 errors and surrendered 16 walks in the two games played at East Central Community College.
“We pitched it well. That's the main thing. And we played pretty good defense,” said Ethel coach Chris Schuster. He added, “When we play only once a week it's hard to get the timing down for hitting.”
Three other games scheduled last week were rained out, Winona and North Panola at a tournament hosted by Winona and Eupora.
Ethel had 15 hits in the two games. In the opener, Brady White had two hits and a walk, drove in a run, and scored once. Cyrus Rone doubled with an RBI and two runs scored and Kaden Adams doubled, scored once and plated two.
Four pitchers allowed four hits and fanned 12. Rone worked the first two innings, retiring six straight batters, five by strikeouts.
Gabe Cain and Kameron McCuller each had two hits in the four-inning second game. Wes Bishop went one-for-two, walked twice, drove in two runs, and scored three. Colin White pitched two innings, McCuller and Ethan Bishop one each, allowing two hits with six strikeouts.
The Tigers have excelled at bunting, something of a lost art in today's game. “For some reason, we are bunting the ball very well — the best we bunted in years,” Schuster said. “They're bunting better than hitting. I can't figure it out.”
The Tigers played Benton Academy Tuesday, have a return date with Benton at home Friday and a road game at Oak Hill Academy in West Point Saturday.
