Dave McCrory continues in teaching role at Ethel
The Ethel High School administration has confirmed that Dave McCrory is no longer the school’s head football coach.
“We appreciate the time he has spent at Ethel, but at this point we have decided to move in a different direction,” said Ethel High School principal Culley Newman in a statement released by School Superintendent Bryan Weaver. Weaver said McCrory will remain as a health and drug education teacher at the school.
When reached on Saturday morning, McCrory confirmed that he had been told by administration on Friday that he was being removed from the head football coaching position. He declined further comment on the matter.
McCrory was 2-20 in his two seasons as head coach at Ethel, including an 0-12 mark this season.
Weaver said Monday that he expects Newman will set up and announce an application process for the position after the Thanksgiving holiday break.
Despite a winless season, McCrory had been positive throughout the year, noting his team’s improvement and pointing toward a bright future based on the hard work of the players. During the season, McCrory repeatedly said the football program was progressing and he felt groundwork was being built for something good.
