McAdams High School trudges onward following a 16-6 victory over West Tallahatchie on the road.
Eight second-quarter points and eight fourth-quarter points were all the Bulldogs needed.
“Kristopher Brown was a one-man show again,” Bulldog Head Coach Jim Risen said.
That was no surprise, but what was, was that West Tallahatchie tried to run between the tackles.
“Defensively, we had a great night,” Risen said. “They tried to run it right up the gut on us, but we have those monsters up there in that 3-4 we play.”
Risen said noseguard Lewis Latiker had a particularly strong night upfront. Though he regularly occupied two or three blockers, Latiker still mananged to record 11 tackles, nine of them solo.
On offense, when the Bulldogs were not capitalizing upon the speed of Brown and quarterback Jorden Fleming, they leaned heavily on the tough running of fullback Bubba Ward, who finished with 85 yards on 11 carries.
Fleming was 6-for-9 passing for 127 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown to Brown, and rushed for 59 yards on 12 carries including one touchdown on the ground. Brown also rushed for 43 yards on 8 carries.
Risen also singled out the play of tight end Amir Bentley, who converted two two-point conversions.
“If he gets his hands around it, it’s done, especially with his size,” Risen said.
Risen said linebacker Demarcus Gray was allowed to roam freely thanks to playing behind Latiker and took advantage of the luxury by playing a “great game”.
Ward finished with 10 total tackles and Jaquan Winters six and a blocked punt.
McAdams is on the road again, on Friday, when it plays Leake County High School.
