McAdams stopped a late two-point conversion attempt by St. Joseph of Madison and came away with the Bulldogs' first win of the season.A touchdown pass pulled the Bruins within 14-13. “They went for two. They were going for the win,” said McAdams coach Kenneth Nelson. “We called time out and switched up our defense.”St. Joseph tried a run to the right, but freshman linebacker Ed Stewart met him. “Stewart came up and made a good play. Then all the other guys got there,” Nelson said.McAdams took a 14-0 lead into the fourth quarter on a TD run by Jaylan Perteet, a fumble return by Jalena Greer and a two-point conversion run by Perteet.St. Joseph scored twice in the final period, but came up short.It was the Bulldogs' first home game of the season. “The kids were fired up to be at home,” Nelson said. “All our games in the month of September were on the road. I saw a bunch of fired-up kids who were focused all week. They played with a lot of energy, a lot of spirit, a lot of excitement. We had a pep rally earlier in the day and that really pumped up the kids.”Tromone Bailey led the McAdams offense with 14 carries for 63 yards. Perteet had 40 yards on 11 carries.“The kid who really stood out was Jalena Greer. He had a remarkable game,” Nelson said. In addition to his fumble return, Greer, who also plays quarterback, had two interceptions on defense and 13 tackles.“I sent him in to be the Blitz 16 Player of the Week.”McAdams has another home game Thursday against Raymond, a 4A school. As was the case with St. Joseph, Raymond was added to the schedule to fill an opening, resulting from McEvans opting out of fall sports.Raymond is 2-3, with victories over Franklin County and Amite County and losses to Kemper County, Newton and Lawrence County. “They have a great quarterback and a great receiver. It's going to be tough test for us,” Nelson said.Trent Singleton has completed 38 of 61 passes for 554 yards and seven touchdowns and has carried 57 times for 437 yards and 10 TDs. Larry Mosley has 20 receptions for 342 yards and four TDs. In a 55-35 loss to Lawrence County last week, Singleton was 20 of 30 passing for 337 yards and three TDs and Mosely caught nine passes for 228 yards and two TDs.Both are juniors.
