There were six lead changes through five innings, before French Camp Academy pulled away in the final two frames to defeat host McAdams High School 15-9 on Monday, in a slow-pitch softball contest.
It was the second game of a back-to-back series between the two schools. The Panthers defeated the Bulldogs, 11-1, in the first game, which was played in French Camp.
“There was a vast improvement from Thursday’s game to tonight,” McAdams Head Coach Gunner Nichols said. “If a couple of balls fall our way and we don’t make a couple of errors, it might have been a different story.”
It was a pleasant scene at McAdams, complete with some good-natured razzing of the umpire who made some good calls in a handful of seldom-seen circumstances.
French Camp Head Coach Todd Chesser was pleased with how his team hit and noted the batting of Emory Peacock (3-for-5, including a triple) and Dabney Edwards (4-for-4, including a double).
“We moved (Emory) to the four-hole and it kind of paid off for us tonight,” Chesser said.
Chesser also mentioned the strong pitching of Maci Grice, who also had a good day at the plate.
Nichols said left fielder Shawnessey Martin was “clutch in the field and at the plate, multiple times”. The coach also noted the play of shortstop Kierra Brown, who hit well and was part of turning two double plays.
