Kosciusko youth baseball and softball teams enjoyed a banner season in 2019.
“We had a good summer,” said Parks and Recreation director Todd Ables. “We hosted two state tournaments and a couple of district tournaments. We had teams go about as far as they could go.”
Kosciusko hosted baseball and softball tournaments at Hugh Ellard Park.
Looking ahead, Ables noted that there will be youth soccer in the fall and nine more holes for disc golf. The disc golf course opened last year at Jason Niles Park and it has been very popular. “Way more than I expected,” Ables said.
To meet the demand, an additional nine holes will be added, either at Jason Niles Park to make it an 18-hole course or at a different location.
Registration for fall soccer will be conducted Aug. 19-0 at Hugh Ellard Park. There will be teams in five age groupings – u (under) 6, u8, u10, u12 and u18. There is no residency requirement for participation and teams will have boys and girls.
New participants must bring a birth certificate to registration. To be eligible, a child must be at least age 4 by July 31.
The season begins in mid-September and lasts eight weeks.
There were more than 200 players on 23 teams last year. “We will not know how many teams we will have until we have registration,” said Patty Edwards, president of the Kosciusko Soccer Association for Youths (KSAY).
The u12 and u18 teams play on a regulation soccer field, the younger players on a smaller field.
