The Kosciusko Lady Whippet fastpitch team played four times last week, winning three. The three wins moved the Lady Whippets’ overall record to 15-4 overall and 5-1 in region play. The Lady Whippets fell to West Lauderdale on Tuesday night in a low scoring 1-0 contest, but soundly defeated Winona on Thursday night 9-0, Choctaw County on Friday by a score of 8-5 and Winona on Saturday 7-2.
In last Tuesday night’s loss to West Lauderdale, Katie Lawrence got the start and pitched six innings, yielding one run on two hits while striking out four. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Josie Meggs with two singles; Katie Mitchell with a double; Lawrence with a single and Madeline McCown with a single.
In Thursday night’s 9-0 win over the Caledonia Lady Feds, Lawrence got the start once again and pitched seven complete, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out nine. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Kelly Hood with a single and three runs scored; Meggs with a single, double, three RBI and two runs scored; McCown with two singles, a triple, three RBI and two runs scored; Mitchell with a double; Audrey Claire Henderson with a double and one run scored; Lawrence with a single and AnnaLeigh Jones with one run scored.
On Friday night Mitchell got the start and win over the Choctaw County Lady Chargers, allowing five runs on seven hits in seven complete while striking out eight. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Hood with a single and two runs scored; Meggs with a single and one run scored; McCown with a single; Maddy Gilmore with two singles; Jones with two singles, a double and one run scored; Audrey Claire Henderson with a single, a triple and two runs scored; Makenzie Ryals with a single and two runs scored; Sarah Caroline Henderson with a single and Abigail Myers with a single.
The Lady Whippets finished off the week with a 7-2 win over the Winona Lady Tigers where Lawrence got the start and win for Kosy. Lawrence pitched four innings and struck out four while Mitchell pitched the final three innings of the contest striking out three Lady Tigers. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Hood with a single and two runs scored; Meggs with two doubles and two runs scored; Mitchell with a double; Sarah Caroline Henderson with a single; Audrey Claire Henderson with three singles; Myers with a single; Emma Rush with a single; Jones with one run scored and Gabbie Kelley with one run scored.
The Lady Whippets hosted Leake Central on Tuesday night and will travel to Noxubee County on Thursday night at 5 p.m. and then to Northwest Rankin on Friday at noon.
