Kosciusko girls placed third in last weekend’s MHSAA Class 4A North State Track and Field Meet held at Tishomingo County.
The Lady Whippets racked up 68.5 points to finish third in the team standings behind Senatobia (142.5 points) and Pontotoc (116 points).
The Kosciusko boys wound up 14th overall in the team standings with 16 points. There were more than four dozen schools combined represented at the meet in Iuka.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for this weekend’s Class 4A State Meet to be held in Pearl, and Kosciusko qualified in five total events – all on the girls’ side.
The Whippets and Lady Whippets placed in 23 events total at the North State Meet.
Among those qualifying for this weekend’s State Meet are
— Mikhayla Vaughn, who won the North State individual championship in the girls’ long jump with a total of 16 feet, 3.5 inches;
— Tyneria Cross, who was third in the girls’ high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10.5 inches;
— Diamond Rayford, who was third in the girls’ long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 2 inches;
— Vaughn, who also qualified by placing third in the girls’ triple jump with a total of 33 feet; and
— Kenyatta Allen, who was fourth in the girls’ shot put with a heave of 29 feet, 11 inches.
