The Kosciusko softball team opened its 2020 fast-pitch season with an 18-0, run-rule shortened win against Choctaw County on Saturday.
Emmagail Kelley went three innings in the circle to earn the first pitching win of the season. Kelley allowed two hits, struck out two batters and walked one in the victory. Kaitlyn Howell went one inning and fanned two batters.
Kosciusko batters rattled off 16 hits. Kelly Hood, KC Schuler and Emma Rush netted triples. Josie Meggs, Campbell Blaine, Laken Milner and Schuler added doubles.
Schuler produced a team-leading five RBIs, Milner tallied three RBIs and Hood chipped in with two RBIs.
Blaine, Schuler and Gracie Williams ended with three runs scored apiece.
“I think we have handled the beginning of the season well,” Kosciusko coach Tony Terry said. “We have been dealing with rain and not being on the field much. We have some inexperienced players, but they have handled themselves well so far. We have a good core of returning players who have shown good leadership.”
Kosciusko (1-0) was set to travel to Choctaw County on Tuesday and hosts Neshoba Central on Thursday and Friday.
