Kosciusko’s softball program opened last week with a 15-0, run-rule-shortened win against Choctaw County on Tuesday. Both teams met on Feb. 22 in the Lady Whippets’ season opener, where Kosciusko earned an 18-0 win.
Kaitlyn Howell threw two innings of one-strikeout ball against the Lady Chargers to earn the win in the circle. Emmagail Kelley went one inning and struck out one, while KC Schuler accumulated three walks and two strikeouts in one inning pitched.
Kelly Hood swatted a team-high two RBIs.
Campbell Blaine and Lizzie Kate Jones had multi-hit performances with two hits apiece. Schuler mashed a double. Schuler and Blaine tallied a team-high three runs each.
Neshoba Central earned back-to-back wins against Kosciusko on Thursday and Friday to drop the Lady Whippets to 2-2 this season. Neshoba won 11-6 and 17-7.
On Thursday, Blaine hit two doubles while Schuler added a triple and a single.
Josie Meggs scored two runs. Kelley received the pitching loss.
In Friday’s rubber match, Schuler contributed three singles, while Mary Kimble Price chipped in with a double and a triple. Alexandra West provided two singles. Hood tripled against the Lady Rockets.
West and Meggs each recorded two runs.
“We played one of the best teams in the state on consecutive nights,” Kosciusko coach Tony Terry said. “We have a young pitching staff, and we learned some things. You only get better playing the best. Offensively, we performed well. We will learn from this and move forward.”
Kosciusko hosts Choctaw County on Tuesday and Lake on Thursday. The Lady Whippets will play Ethel and French Camp Academy on Saturday in the Ethel softball tournament.
