The French Camp Academy baseball team defeated Lumberton twice after dropping game one of the 1A South Playoff series to advance into the quarterfinals against Nanih Waiya on Thursday night. The Panthers dropped game one on the road 9-4 on Friday night before sweeping Lumberton in French Camp on Saturday by scores of 9-8 and 3-0.
The two wins pushed the Panthers’ overall record to 13-10 on the year.
In game one on Friday night, Luke McKnight got the start and pitched five innings, allowing eight hits, nine runs (four earned) and four walks while striking out three. Brady Jackson came on in relief and pitched the final inning, surrendering a hit and a walk. The offensive leaders for the Panthers on Friday night were Logan Burchfield with a single and a steal; Corrie Witt with a run scored and a steal; Connor Windham with a single; Fletcher Travis with an RBI and a steal; McKnight with a run scored and a steal; Brooks Warren with two singles, a double and a homerun with two runs scored, two RBI and two steals and Colin Perry with an RBI.
In game one on Saturday in French Camp, Warren got the start and the win by pitching 4.1 innings, allowing only four hits, one run (none earned), six walks while striking out six. Jackson pitched two innings in the contest and surrendered two hits, four runs (none earned) and four walks while striking out two. Holman Edwards pitched the final .2 of an inning and yielded three runs (none earned) on one hit. The offensive leaders for the Panthers were Burchfield with a double, single and two RBI; Witt with three runs scored; Gage McGlothin with a single, double and an RBI; Zach Avent with two doubles, a single, one run scored and an RBI; Edwards with a single; McKnight with one run scored; Warren with a home run, double, one run scored and four RBI and Maher Angalo with a steal.
In game two on Saturday, Avent took the hill and pitched seven complete, allowing no runs on two hits while walking eight. The offensive leaders for the Panthers were McGlothin with a run scored and a steal, Avent with a single and an RBI, Warren with an RBI, Jackson with a single, Perry with a single and one run scored and Angalo with one run scored and two stolen bases.
