The Ethel Tiger fastpitch team defeated Noxapater twice last week to advance into the second round of the Class 1A South Playoffs. The Lady Tigers won game one 17-6 last Tuesday night and squeaked by Noxapater 8-7 at home on Thursday. The win set up a best-of-three second round series with Salem. Ethel played Salem twice on Tuesday night and will play on the road Wednesday if game three is necessary.
In last Tuesday night’s 17-6 win over Noxapater, Jessica Mitchell got the start and pitched seven innings, allowing six runs. The offensive leaders for the Lady Tigers were Brooklyn Whitman with two doubles and three runs scored; Sidney Rone with an inside-the-park grand slam and two runs scored; Madison Odom with a single and one run scored; Mitchell with three singles; Jaidyn Sims with three runs scored; Avery Bouchillon with a single and two runs scored; Breanna Blaine with a double, two singles and two runs scored; Clarissa Smith with a single and two runs scored and Brooklyn Pitt with two runs scored.
In Thursday night’s 8-7 series-clinching win over Noxapater, Kambrie Hodges got the start and pitched two innings, allowing three walks while striking out two. Mitchell pitched the final five innings for the Lady Tigers and struck out five while walking six on the night.
The offensive leaders for the Lady Tigers on Thursday night were Whitman with a double and two runs scored; Rone with a single, double and one run scored; Odom with a single and one run scored; Bouchillon with one run scored; Pitt with one run scored; Smith with a double, single and two runs scored and Carlye Pender with a single. The Lady Tigers moved to 13-5 on the year with the sweep.
