The Kosciusko Lady Whippets swept Tishomingo County last week, allowing only two total runs to the Lady Braves in two games. The Lady Whippets took game one 7-0 last Tuesday night and won 12-2 on Thursday night in Kosciusko. The series win pushed the Lady Whippets into the 4A North State semifinals against Houston. Game one was played on Tuesday night in Houston and game two was played on Wednesday night in Kosciusko. Game three, if necessary, was played immediately after game two in Kosciusko.
In last Tuesday night’s series opener at Tishomingo County, Katie Lawrence got the start and pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and no runs while striking out 12 Lady Braves. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Ashley Trehern with three doubles and one run scored, Josie Meggs with a single and one run scored, Katie Mitchell with four singles and one run scored, Abigail Myers with a single and one run scored, Lawrence with a single; Kaylee Ables with one run scored and Melissa Gowan with one run scored.
In Thursday night’s series clinching win over the Lady Braves in Kosciusko, Mitchell got the start and pitched five innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out two. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Trehern with two doubles and two runs scored; Meggs with two singles and three runs scored; Mitchell with a single; Maddy Gilmore with a triple, single and three runs scored; Adyson Mann with two singles; AC Henderson with a single and one run scored; Madeline McCown with a single; Gowan with two runs scored and Bre Barrentine with one run scored.
“We played really good ball during the first round,” said Lady Whippet head coach Tony Terry. “We were solid in all three phases. We hit well, pitched well and defended well.”
The sweep of Tishomingo pushed the Lady Whippets overall record to 21-6 on the year.
