The Lady Whippets moved to 4-0 on the year after two resounding wins over Ridgeland and Yazoo County, each by scores of 10-0. The Lady Whippets have only given up two runs in four games and are currently ranked No. 1 in Class 4A by the website High School Sports in Mississippi.
In the Friday night contest against the Lady Titans of Ridgeland, Katie Lawrence drew the start and struck out 13 hitters while allowing only two hits. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Ashley Trehern with a single and two runs scored, AC Henderson with two runs scored, Katie Mitchell with a single and one run scored, Maddy Gilmore with a single and one run scored, Kaylee Ables with one run scored, Josie Meggs with two runs scored, Bre Barrentine with one run scored, Adyson Mann with two singles, Abigail Myers with a single and Lawrence with a single.
In the Saturday win over the Lady Panthers of Yazoo County, Katie Mitchell got the start and pitched five innings while striking out six hitters and yielding only two hits. The offensive leaders for the Lady Whippets were Trehern with a single, triple and a home run with three runs scored, Melissa Gowan with two runs scored, Mann with a triple and two runs scored, Meggs with a single and two runs scored, Gabbie Kelley with one run scored, Mitchell with two singles, Abi Burns with three singles and four RBI, Ables with a single and Kylie Schuster with a single.
The Lady Whippets travel to Nanih Waiya on Thursday night for a 5 p.m. contest before traveling to Clarkdale near Meridian for a two-day tournament where they will play Florence on Friday at 5 p.m. and Robertsdale, Al and Newton County at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. respectively on Saturday.
