The Kosciusko Whippets baseball team played four times last week, defeating Choctaw County twice by scores of 4-3 and 12-2 on Tuesday and Friday and Winona 5-2 on Friday as well before dropping a 5-2 decision to West Point on Saturday.
In last Tuesday night’s 4-3 win over the Choctaw County Chargers, Jerod Meggs got the start for the Whippets and pitched six innings. He allowed only three hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out five and walking one. Hayden Burns pitched one inning in relief and surrendered two hits and one earned run while striking out two and walking one. The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Jeremy Deason with two singles, one run scored and one RBI; Jonathan Dew with a single and one RBI; Logan Fancher with a single and one run scored; Micah Parker with a single; Jatavious Herron with two singles, two runs scored and one RBI and Patrick Gowan with a single.
In the Friday 12-2 win over the Choctaw County Chargers in Winona, Gowan got the start and pitched five innings, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out three and walking three. Burns pitched the final inning of the contest and yielded two hits and two earned runs while striking out one Charger. The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Deason with one run scored; Dew with a double and three RBI with one run scored; Chase Morgan with a single and one RBI with one run scored; Eli Watkins with one run scored; Parker with a single and one run scored; Burns with a double, one run scored and one RBI; Herron with two singles, one run scored and one RBI; Logan Bell with a single and three runs scored and Gowan with one run scored and two RBI.
In the second game on Friday night against Winona, Fancher got the start and pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three hits, four walks and one earned run while striking out 10 Tiger hitters. Herron pitched the final 2.1 innings and surrendered only one run on two hits while striking out one. The offensive leaders for the Whippets were Deason with a single, one run scored and one RBI; Dew with one run scored; Clark Dean with an RBI; Morgan with a single; Herron with one run scored and Bell with two runs scored and one RBI.
In the Saturday 5-2 loss to the West Point Green Wave, Burns got the start and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out two and walking one. Bryce Oakes pitched one inning and surrendered three hits and two earned runs while walking two. Bell pitched 1.2 innings and gave up one hit while striking out two and walking one. The offensive leaders for the Whippets on Saturday were Deason with two singles, one double and one RBI; Herron with one run scored; Bell with a single and Walker Yuille with a single and one run scored,
The Whippets played Richland in Meridian on Tuesday and will play Morton in Meridian on Thursday at 7 p.m. before traveling to West Point on Friday for a 4 p.m. contest and Newton County on Saturday for an 11 a.m. contest.
