The Kosciusko 7- and 9-year-old All-Stars played in their respective district tournaments this past weekend with both coming away winners. The tournament win for the teams placed them both into the Dixie Youth State Tournament in Mendenhall on July 8. The 7s went 4-1 in Philadelphia over the weekend and the 9s, who were the host team, went 3-0 by easily sweeping out the Yazoo Stars and Philly Stars in three games.
In game one for the 7s on Friday, the Stars were able to pull out a high-scoring affair over the West Lauderdale Stars by a score of 12-11. The 7s then dropped an 8-7 decision to Philadelphia in the nightcap on Friday and would have to fight through the loser’s bracket on Saturday. The Kosy 7s defeated West Lauderdale in game one on Saturday 11-7 to advance to play an undefeated Philadelphia team. The Kosy 7s needed a sweep of the Philly Stars to advance to the State Tourney and were able to do so by winning convincingly twice by scores of 11-2 and 8-5.
The tourney fate of the Kosy 9s was never in doubt after winning game one over Philadelphia on Friday night in Kosciusko 20-4. They went on to crush Yazoo City in the late game 13-3 on Friday night and would cruise to the championship on Saturday with a very convincing 21-2 win over the Yazoo Stars.
In game one against the Philadelphia Stars Andrew Mancell scored two runs, Brady White scored once, Ty Ramage scored once, Bennie Powell scored four times, Ryan Tillman scored three times, Colin White scored once, Adam Reed Greer scored once, Bailey Powers scored twice, Parker Hodge scored three times and Logan Engle scored twice. In the game two win over Yazoo City Mancell scored once, Brady White scored twice, Ramage scored once, Powell scored twice, Tillman scored twice, Colin White scored once, Powers scored once, Hodge scored once and Engle scored once. In the championship game on Saturday against Yazoo City Mancell scored three times, Brady White scored three times, Ramage scored twice, Powell scored three times, Tillman scored once, Colin White scored three times, Powers scored twice, Hodge scored three times and Engle scored twice.
In other Dixie Youth and ASA tourneys, the 12U Class C All-Stars will be playing in the North State Tournament in Kosciusko on Friday with games starting at 6 p.m. The O-Zone All-Stars will play in the district tournament on July 8 in Yazoo City while the Kosy 8-year-old All-Stars begin district play on Friday night in Philadelphia.
