It is that time of the year again.
The hot days of summer are now here, and that can mean only one thing: the Central Mississippi Fair must be right around the corner.
This year the fair opens on Wednesday, Aug. 3, and runs four days through Saturday, Aug. 6.
Kids of all ages come to the fair year after year to see farm animals, experience the rides at the midway, eat every kind of food on a stick imaginable and see fascinating exhibits.
This year, the Central Mississippi Fair is showcasing some new rides, competitions, exhibits and live entertainment.
“This is a big event for our town and something that people look forward too,” said Pati Edwards, Director of Events and Outreach with the Kosciusko-Attala Partnership. “We expect to bring a lot of people from the surrounding counties into Kosciusko throughout the week.”
Activities actually kick off Aug. 1 when exhibit registration open at the Attala County Coliseum, followed by judging on Aug. 2. Perishables and flowers will go on display Aug. 3. New to the fair will be a larger quilt exhibit after partnering with local quilting clubs.
Fan favorite festivities will be continued this year with the community sports challenge on Aug. 4 and the Fairest of the Fair Pageant on Aug. 5. Live entertainment will be available throughout the fair including the Attala’s Got Talent competition on Aug. 3 and a new addition of Battle of the Bands closing out the fair.
“We are expecting bigger and more family friendly rides this year,” Edwards said. “We are hoping to see old Ferris wheel back, but I think we will have several more rides than we usually do.”
Another change this year will be the annual livestock show which will take place Aug. 6.
The gates to the fair will officially open to the public at 5 p.m. Wednesday night. Senior Day will be the morning of Aug. 5. Cost to enter the fair will be $6.
