The Ethel boys and girls basketball team played well enough during the Region 5-1A Tournament held in Attala County last week to host first round games in the MHSAA Class 1A State Tournament on Tuesday.
The Tigers (9-13) and Lady Tigers (11-15) were set to host Mount Olive in the first round of the MHSAA Class 1A playoffs on Tuesday with the girls game starting at 6 p.m. The boys game will follow. Losses would end their seasons, while wins would have the girls playing on Friday and the boys on Saturday against foes and in locations yet to be determined.
The Ethel boys won their semifinal game of the division tournament over French Camp 63-53 behind Anton Clark’s 20 points and would fall to West Lowndes in the division championship game 53-40.
The girls would win their first round game over Noxapater 53-20 behind Jasmine Johnson’s 10 points and Abbie Ellington’s 10 points, beat county rival McAdams 39-32 in the semifinals behind ZaKiya Dotsons 15 points and then would fall to top-ranked West Lowndes 57-37.
