The Ethel girls basketball team will be young this year for the most part, but very competitive.
The Lady Tigers are coming off a 13-11 season in 2018-2019 and reached the second round of the MHSAA Class 1A playoffs.
Seniors Takia Miller and Stavianne Cain will be the leaders of the team this season. The leading scorer returning from last year, Dejah Merritt, suffered a season ending injury in the Lady Tigers season opener. Merritt averaged 9.9 points per game last season.
Guard Zakiya Dotson along with forwards Jasmine Johnson, Abbie Ellington and Destiny Felton will be lean upon for scoring.
"We will rely heavily on defense and that'll help our offense," said Ethel head coach Corey Parish. "We will play 8-10 girls on any given night. We are very excited about the season and the growth that will take place with this young team."
The Lady Tigers will compete in Region 5-1A with McAdams, Nanih Waiya, Noxapater, West Lowndes and French Camp. McAdams will be hosting the district tournament.
"The deeper we get into the season the more competitive we should be as our young players become more comfortable with our system and the speed of the game," Parish said.
