For Ethel coach Dave McCrory, it was about playing better as a team.
The Tigers would rush for over 100 yards, but it was not enough as Hollandale-Simmons would come away with the 40-6 win in a Region 3-1A matchup on Friday night
“We played better as a team, but defensively we didn’t line up correctly some and it hurt us,” McCrory said. “They were quick playing us and we were to slow to line up.”
Ethel (0-6, 0-3 Region 3-1A) rushed for 163 yards as team. Kyle Nabors had 12 yards on 12 carries, while Anton Clark added 41 yards on eight carries.
Cyrus Rone scored the Ethel touchdown from two yards out. He had 39 yards on six carries.
The Tigers will travel to Coffeeville (1-4, 1-2 Region 3-1A) on Friday. The Pirates are coming off a 34-32 overtime thrilling win over Ray Brooks last Friday night in a game where running back A.J. Matthews had 329 yards of total offense with five touchdowns.
“He is a great player and they won last week because of him,” McCrory said. “It’s their homecoming on Friday so they will be hyped up. We got to keep getting better and can’t be our own enemy.”
