The Tigers of Ethel High School opened the 2020 baseball season in fine fashion on Saturday afternoon with a home doubleheader sweep of Central Holmes Christian School, winning the opener 15-0 and the second game 17-2.
Ethel was set to host Canton Academy on Tuesday, Philadelphia on Thursday and Eupora on Friday. Central Holmes was scheduled to play at Deer Creek on Tuesday before returning to action on March 3 for a doubleheader at Carroll.
Reeves Threadgill tossed a three-inning, two-hitter while striking out three to lead EHS in the opener. Cyrus Rone based a homer and single for the winners, while Austin Handson, Tyler Weaver, Alex Schuster, Tanner Reeves and Haden Beall had a hit each and Graves, Reeves and Rone each had two RBIs. Weaver scored three runs for the winners.
Noah Steen had a double for Central Holmes, while Elijah Steen had the Trojans’ other hit. Owen O’Bryant, Mason Wiysel, Jace Dean and Josh Robinson all pitched for the Trojans.
Just like the opener, Ethel had a nine-run third-inning in the nightcap to take the win by the run-rule.
Schuster had a double and two singles and scored four runs for the Tigers in the win, while Reeves cranked out a homer and double producing three RBIs.
Beall and Rone each added a single and scored two runs for the winners. Kameron McCuller pitched three innings to earn the win for Ethel, while Beall struck out the side in his one inning of work on the mound for the Tigers. McCuller allowed just one earned run in the game, while striking out three.
Noah Steen doubled and scored a run for the Trojans while Elijah Steen and Ellis Harris each singled and drove in runs. Jace Dean and Brad Robinson also had singled for Central Holmes while Barrett Fondren scored their other run.
