The French Camp Academy tennis team was eliminated from the MHSAA 1A/2A playoffs with a loss to defending state champion Tupelo Christian, but nine FCA athletes will participate in the individual championships.
Tupelo Christian swept all seven matches. “They were out of our league,” said FCA coach Larry Mincher.
The Panthers finish 10-2, including the championship of Region 3 and an opening round playoff 7-0 victory over Baldwyn.
The individual championships will be determined May 7, 8 and 9 at Oxford’s FNC Tennis Center with 16 players each in boys and girls singles and 16 teams each in boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles.
The following French Camp players qualified: Boys singles, Ben Skelton, sixth seed; Boys doubles, Bradley McGlothin and Cameron Smith, 10th seed; Girls doubles, Hannah Mooneyhan and Grace Peyton, sixth seed; Girls doubles, Ruthie Storment and Raney Peacock, 15th seed; Mixed doubles, Jason May and Rachel Gray, fourth seed.
Singles players and doubles teams qualified for the state tournament by finishing first or second in district tournaments. Seeding was determined by results throughout the season.
