One singles player and two doubles teams from French Camp advanced to the second round of the MHSAA individual tournament for 1A and 2A schools.
“We had nine individuals make the tournament this year,” said FCA coach Larry Mincher. “That is the most we have ever had.”
Ben Skelton defeated Oren Stowell of New Site in the opening round of boys singles before a loss to Corey Jones of Pisgah.
The girls doubles team of Hannah Mooneyhan and Grace Peyton defeated a team from West Lincoln, then lost to Mary Grace Gaines and Caroline Upchurch of Tupelo Christian, who went on to win the championship.
In mixed doubles Jason May and Rachel Gray lost to a team from Loyd Star after defeating a duo from Mize.
Two other doubles teams from French Camp qualified for the competition at Oxford's FNC Tennis Center. Bradley McGlothin and Cameron Smith lost in the opening round of boys doubles. Ruthie Stormont and Hannah Peacock were defeated in the girls doubles opening round.
In team competition, French Camp won Region 3 and advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 7-0 win over Baldwyn before losing to state champion Tupelo Christian. The Panthers finished 10-2.
