The Ethel Tigers split a pair of baseball contests last week and now stand 5-2 on the young season.
The Tigers rolled to an easy 14-1 win over visiting J.Z. George last Tuesday before things got away from them in a 14-2 loss to Winston Academy on Friday night.
This week, Ethel was scheduled to play four contests in the Rush Invitational Spring Break Classic at Q.V. Sykes Park in Meridian.
The Tigers were scheduled to start the week with games against Puckett and Magee in the tourney on Tuesday, and on Thursday, they will face both Newton County Academy and Scott Central.
Next week, Ethel is scheduled to go to Vardaman on Tuesday (March 20) before opening division play with a home doubleheader against McAdams on Friday (March 23). On Saturday (March 24), the Tigers are scheduled to pay a visit to Winston.
Last Tuesday, Ethel scored in all four innings of a rout-shortened win over J.Z. George.
The Tigers jumped to a 4-0 lead after two innings, led 8-1 after three frames and then erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Alex Schuster was 2-for-2 with a double, four runs scored, two RBIs and a couple of stolen bases; Brady Odom was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs and Hayden Beal homered and drove in three runs to lead the Tigers.
Hayden Graves added two hits, two runs and two RBIs; Cyrus Rone and Cullin Cummins both singled, scored and drove in a run; Blake Wilkinson scored and drove in a run; and Tanner Reeves also drove in a run.
Odom struck out six and gave up one run in three innings to earn the pitching win, while Wilkinson fanned one in one perfect frame on the hill.
Friday night, the Tigers were knotted at 1-1 with visiting Winston Academy after two innings before things unraveled in the third. That is when the visiting Patriots scored 11 times, sparked by a grand slam home run by Jesse Boydstun.
Ethel had just two hits, with Rone singling and scoring and Schuster also getting a single. Graves scored once and Tyler Weaver drove in one.
