The Tigers and Lady Tigers of Ethel High School tipped off Region 5-1A play in fine fashion, with each team winning its first two district games last week.
This week Ethel will continue Region 5-1A play as it was set to host Noxapater on Tuesday and West Lowndes on Friday.
Sacarrio Merritt would have a game-high 26 points against Nanih Waiya as the Tigers edged the Warriors 67-66 in overtime in their division opener.
Ethel outscored Nanih Waiya 6-5 in the crucial extra period. Izik Stewart added 16 points for the Tigers.
Stewart had a game-high 22 points on Friday as the Tigers were able to run past the Panthers of FCA 50-40.
Merritt added 13 points for Ethel who is now 3-9 overall and 2-0 in Region 5-1A play.
GIRLS
Ethel 40, Nanih Waiya 36
Takia Miller would have a game-high 15 points as the Lady Tigers edged the Lady Warriors 40-36 last Tuesday.
Brooke Mitchell added eight points and four rebounds for Ethel.
Miller notched a team-high 10 points as the Lady Tigers took a 38-36 win over the Lady Panthers.
Jasmine Johnson added eight points and Mitchell chipped in six points for Ethel, which improved to 6-8 overall and 2-0 in region play.
