The Ethel boys and girls would lose their first hoops games of 2019, being swept on the road at Winona.
This week the Tigers and Lady Tigers were set to host rival McAdams in a Region 5-1A contest Tuesday and then entertain Winona on Friday.
Winona Boys 62, Ethel 39
D’Ayres Merritt would have a team-high 12 points to lead Ethel, but in the end Winona would run away with this one in the all-Tiger matchup.
Saccario Merritt added 10 points for Ethel (7-6).
Winona Girls 63, Ethel 58
For the sixth time in the last nine games Akilah Erving would have another double-double but it wasn’t enough as Winona would come away with the win.
Erving had 27 points, 13 rebounds and four steals to lead Ethel.
Dejah Merritt added 14 points and Chiquita Merritt chipped in 12 points for the Lady Tigers (7-6).
