The Ethel Lady Tigers placed third in last week’s Region 3-1A Track & Field Meet, held Thursday in Ridgeland.
The boys from Ethel placed 10th in the region meet, which included participants from more than 15 schools.
The Tigers tallied 16 points total, while the Lady Tigers rolled up 67 points. Vardaman girls (186 points) and Durant boys (121 points) were region champs.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for this weekend’s MHSAA Class 1A South State Meet, which will be held at Madison Central High School.
Ethel qualified for the South State meet in nine events, including three girls’ relay teams.
Freshman Zakiya Dotson won the 100m dash with a time of 12.91 seconds, while seventh-grader Jaterika Merritt was fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 31.72 seconds.
Sophomore Takia Miller was second in the 400m run with a time of 1:11.88, while freshman Dejah Merritt won the 300m hurdles with a time of 52.26 seconds.
Ethel’s girls won first place in the 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x400m relay events.
On the boys' side, sophomore Izik Stewart qualified for the upcoming South State meet in both the 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles.
Stewart was clocked in 19.47 seconds in the 110m hurdles and 52.05 seconds in the 300m hurdles.
