The Ethel football program will try to swing the pendulum of motivation the opposite direction during the 2018 football season, which will officially get under way Aug. 17.
That is when the Tigers open a new football season with a road trip to McAdams.
Ethel is coming off an 0-10 campaign in what is generally considered the state’s toughest Class 1A region. The Tigers were shut out five times last season, but are just a couple years removed from a four-win campaign that saw them just miss the MHSAA Class 1A state playoffs.
After stepping out of Region 3-1A play Aug. 24 with a home contest against Winona Christian School, the Tigers currently have an open date scheduled for Aug. 31. From there on out, it’s all region contests for Ethel.
Sept. 7 brings a trip to Sebastopol, followed by a home game against tradition-rich Noxapater Sept. 14. The Tigers go to Leake County Sept. 21 and host Hamilton on Sept. 28.
Ethel kicks off October with a trip to Vardaman on Oct. 5, followed by a home contest against French Camp Academy on Oct. 12.
A date at defending Class 1A state runner-up Nanih Waiya is next on Oct. 19, and the Tigers will wrap up the regular season Oct. 26 with a home game against West Lowndes.
Ethel tentatively has another open date Nov. 2, with the Class 1A state playoffs set to begin Nov. 9.
