The Ethel boys’ and girls’ track teams combined to qualify for this week’s region meet in 10 events with top-four finishes in last week’s Division 5-1A Track and Field Meet.
The Lady Tigers won first place in six events, including the 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x400m relays. The 4x100m squad was clocked in 53.84 seconds; the 4x200m squad in 1:54.57; and the 4x400m team in 4:47.
Freshman Zakiya Dotson also won the girls’ 100m dash with a time of 15.21 seconds, while sophomore Takia Miller was first in the girls’ 400m run with a time of 1:11.78. Freshman Dejah Merritt won the girls’ 300m hurdles in a time of 53.54 seconds.
Seventh-grader Jaterika Merritt was second in the girls’ 200m dash with a time of 31.8 seconds, while eighth-grader Jasmine Johnson was second in the girls’ shot put with a toss of 27 feet, 11 inches.
On the boys’ side, sophomore Izik Stewart was second in both the boys’ 110m hurdles (17.51 seconds) and the boys’ 300m hurdles (50.72 seconds).
