Lady Trojans make ready for state tourney

The Central Holmes Lady Trojans won two out of four games last week as they begin to prepare for postseason play.

The Lady Trojans took a hard-fought 7-5 win over Carroll Academy on Tuesday before dropping two of three games on Saturday. The Lady Trojans lost 6-5 to Manchester and 11-0 to Clinton Christian before beating Sharkey Issaquena 13-3.

Central Holmes was scheduled to host Indianola on Monday in district contest and will host Winona Christian on Tuesday in another district contest. Next week, the Lady Trojans will travel to Oak Hill on Monday and host Sharkey-Issaquena on Tuesday.

The Lady Trojans will play in the North AAA Tournament which will be hosted by Carroll Academy starting on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Central Holmes 7, Carroll Academy 5

The Lady Trojans used a four-run fourth inning and held on to take a two-run win over the Lady Rebels on Tuesday.

Carroll scored two in the second and sixth and one in the third.

Central Holmes had 10 hits in the contest, led by Kaylee Polk who was 4-for-4 with a home run, four runs scored and two RBIs. Audrey Carr was 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Olivia McBride and Ragan Brown each singled and drove in runs.

Peyton Perry pitched six innings for Carroll and gave up seven runs on 10 hits while striking out four.

Kaylee Polk pitched three innings and gave up three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two. Audrey Carr pitched three innings and gave up two runs on four hits and struck out two as well.

Manchester 6, Central Holmes 5

Manchester held on to take a one-run win over the Lady Trojans on Saturday.

Manchester led 5-0 going in to the fourth where Central Holmes scored four runs to pull within one.

Central Holmes had seven hits, led by Kylee Polk who was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Audrey Carr also had three RBIs while Morgan Bigbee singled and drove in two runs. Olivia McBride was also 2-for-2 on the day.

Polk pitched all five innings in the time limit game and struck out six.

Clinton Christian 11, Central Holmes 0

The Lady Trojans managed only one hit in a loss to Class AAA favorite Clinton Christian on Saturday.

Morgan Bigbee had Central Holmes only hit as they struck out 11 times.

Kaylee Polk pitched four inning for Central Holmes while Audrey Carr pitcher the final two innings.

Central Holmes 13, Sharkey Issaquena 3

The Lady Trojans took a run-rule win over Sharkey to take a second win o the week. No details were available on the contest.
